Account Provisioning / Activation
Access to College computer networks and software systems is controlled by username & password authentication. The Technical Services & Administrative Information Services departments are responsible for provisioning usernames and passwords for all users of College systems. Accounts are provisioned as follows:

Student accounts:
Student accounts are provisioned via an automated process that relies on course enrollment data located in Jenzabar. The automated provisioning process is run on an hourly basis. Once an account has been created, a student may visit the self-service password reset portal on https://my.richland.edu to set (or reset) their password.

The automated student account provisioning process provides a student with an Active Directory (NetID) account, which provides:

  • Login access to all student computers
  • Login access to all student-accessible web-based services not listed below
  • Login access to the college's Remote Desktop Services (RDS) gateway 1)
  • Basic access to academically-oriented file shares
  • An email account on Office 365
  • Access to the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Network storage space on the U:\ drive
  • Username-based (as opposed to ID number-based) login access to JICS (my.richland.edu)


Employee accounts:
Provisioning for employee accounts is initiated when the Technical Services department receives a New Employee Account Request form (this form can be found on https://my.richland.edu in the Employee…Forms…Operations & Technical Services area, and is submitted electronically). Technical Services will assign create a username & password, and provision an Active Directory account, which provides:

  • Login access to all classroom & office computers
  • Login access to all general employee-accessible web-based services not listed below
  • Login access to the Remote Desktop Services (RDS) gateway 2)
  • Basic access to academically-oriented file shares
  • Basic access to employee-oriented file shares
  • An email account on the employee Exchange email server
  • Access to the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Network storage space on the M:\ drive
  • Network storage space on the U:\ drive
  • Access to additional network file shares and folders based on the employee’s job description. These rights are granted via direction from the employee’s supervisor.
